Within the rural regional Mildura environment, a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) villa unit complex encompassing four single level units designed for multiple individual participants. Design commitment facilitates improved integration of independent living for those with disabilities within the community through its consideration for circulation, access and egress, and support requirements whilst ensuring the appearance doesn’t feel institutional to its residents.

Located within the context of single dwelling homes, design consideration encompasses a respected and low scale response to ensure its contemporary integration that complements the existing residential surroundings and characteristics. Attention has been given to material selection and their treatment within the harsh Mildura environment and its elements.

Featuring a contemporary and minimalist combination of corrugated iron and timber details, elements and design is focused on creating light filled spaces and forms. Aesthetic materials of lightweight and weathered metal and timber structure are delicately balanced with natural tones utilised to link the design with the natural qualities of the regional town. Overall design reflects and incorporates the red dirt and highly tolerant native plants of the environment, whilst creating a subtle design statement.
